Held Ground

Hold the line. Do not fire.

Endurance isn’t loud. It’s a whisper to no one but yourself, reminding you to hold the damn line. It doesn’t require witnesses. It isn’t ordered. It’s boots set into soft ground and pushed down until you can feel your weight. It’s knowing the ground may shift. You won’t.

It isn’t about pride or defiance. It isn’t performative. It’s maintaining stillness when that stillness means quelling every instinct to scream. It’s the triumph of will over impulse, and you know it counts because it’s so damn hard.

These are the fights fought in the dark. The ones without the cold reassurance of a rifle or the warmth of a comrade. It’s not firing even when you have the high ground. It’s letting the fear and the noise move through you. It’s choosing silence because doing anything else would just be a misfired attempt to feel less alone.

It’s not victory. It’s not relief. It’s holding the line because anything else would cost you your soul.
