Hungry

A Collaboration with EC (@erroneouschoices) – What isn’t held eventually becomes hunger.

The sky looms unfinished,
a bruise of lavender dissolving into gray.
Night must have forgotten how to close its arm.
and somewhere between my dawn and dusk
I forgot what it is to be held.

I carry my loneliness so quietly
That no one notices until they touch me
Hearts break without a sound
So when I heard mine shatter
I realized I was doing something wrong

Love grows heavy when it’s not held,
like clouds thick with rain
that cannot open
The horizon’s colors dim,
as if the night can only remember black
And we walk beneath it, waiting to drown

There is a hungry sky and I’ve left myself hanging
Brown eyes are fatal and give the best goodnight kisses
Longing isn’t just missing, it’s a wound that never closes
Because it’s not real doesn’t mean I don’t feel it
And every word I write becomes too small for what you are
